NEW LONDON, CT -- The Ephwomen took to the road for the second
straight day for another conference match looking to make it six
straight against the Connecticut College, but the Camels had other
plans as they downed a red hot Williams team by a final of
5-2. The purple and gold, now 7-4-1 in the NESCAC (10-8-2
overall) were bombarded by four Camel scores before finding the net
in the third period, and the last-ditch effort was not enough as
their opponent improved to 3-7-2 in conference play (6-12-2
overall).
Williams certainly had their share of opportunities in the first
forty minutes of play, driving 18 shots on net and drawing 8
penalties, but they could not convert on any of these
chances. Conn. College had no such trouble finding the back
of the net, as they made good on 4 out of the 24 attempts they took
in those two periods, including a power-play strike by freshman
forward Ariel DiPasquale, who put in the Camel's second score at
1:30 into the middle frame. The rookie also banked home the
unassisted game-winner at 9:55, and assisted junior forward Celia
Medeiros's lamp-lighter late in the period that put Conn. College
up 4-0.
"We had a slow start today, followed by an overall lack of
execution," summarized Eph head coach Marissa O'Neil. "That
was pretty much the story of the first two periods.... They
came out of the gate very strong and we were never able to
recover. By the time we got it together in the final period
it was too late."
