Williams Defeats Buffalo State 13-6

BOX SCORE

BALTIMORE, MD -- Williams College scored six straight goals to open the second half Thursday, pulling away from Buffalo State to post a 13-6 victory in a game played at Goucher College.

The Ephs improved to 3-3 with the win. Williams returns to NESCAC play on April 3rd at Trinity at 12 p.m.

The first half began with a flurry of goals. Margie Fulton, with help from senior Tina Nawrocki, got the offense rolling for the Ephs, putting one behind Bengal goalkeeper Ashley O'Brien 2:50 into the game. The Bengals responded, scoring two goals in quick succession. Nawrocki netted one of her own a minute later, tying the game at 2-2. Buffalo sophomore Karen Shaddock scored one more goal before Williams freshman Sam Weinstein was able to net a pair of goals, securing a 4-3 lead for the Ephs at the close of the first half.

The Ephs came out of halftime with a bang, scoring six unanswered goals in the first ten minutes. Fulton once again opened the scoring, followed by senior co-captain Whitney Thayer. Fulton and Thayer would go on to score one more each, with Kaitlin Ellis and Weinstein completing the initial flurry. Nawrocki, Ellis, and sophomore Meera Sivalingam assisted on the goals.

The Ephs opening volley was broken by Bengal junior Molly Seifritz, who scored at 17:37. Williams responded with another series of goals, netting three more, bringing their total to 13. Nawrocki scored her second goal of the game off a pass from senior Tracey Ferriter, closely followed by a free-position goal by Weinstein, her fourth of the game. Ferriter scored her first goal of the game  with 9:19 remaining on the clock. Seifritz would net two more before the game ended, bringing the final score to 13-6.

O'Brien made five saves and Williams goalie Julia Schreiber made eight.

Head coach Chris Mason was “very happy” with how her team played: “Today we put it all together, we played well. We moved the ball well, played dynamically, put up a tough defense, and really improved on our draw control. Our offense really got going today and took good opportunities. I'm very happy with the defense, Schreiber especially had a great game. [Because of our lead] all of our field players were able to get in today, and they did a good job as well.”
