CLINTON, NY — Cedar Blazek was 2 for 2 with two triples and Allison Hart went 3 for 4 with a three-bagger Friday as the Williams College softball team posted a key 8-1 victory over Hamilton College in a NESCAC West Division match-up.

Williams improved to 12-18-1 overall, 5-2 in the NESCAC West, while the Continentals slipped to 4-19 on the season. The two teams meet again Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at noon.

Friday's game was a nailbiter for five innings. Both teams scored one run in the first, and Williams held a slim 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third when the Continentals loaded the bases with no outs. Williams junior Mary Beth Daub came out of the bullpen to relieve Eph starter Megan Casey, and went 3-0 on the first batter she faced before recovering to strike her out. After a fielder's choice erased a runner at the plate, Daub put the exclamation point on her great escape with another strikeout.

The Ephs scored three times in the sixth and three more in the seventh to account for the final 8-1 score. In the sixth, Weston led off with a single and Amanda Correnti followed with a single before Carly Ameen came up and stroked a two-run double for a 4-1 lead. Emily Levy scored Ameen on a groundout later in the frame.

In the seventh, Kaitlin Dinet stroked a pinch-hit two-run double. Hart was 3 for 4 with a triple and two runs scored. Blazek tripled twice and walked twice, and Oriana Mcgee was 2 for 4 in the win. Daub picked up the win by going five full innings, giving up only three hits while walking no one and striking out four.
