HARTFORD, CT – Undefeated Trinity
(7-0/4-0 NESCAC) wasted little time in gaining the advantage over
visiting Williams (3-4/1-3 NESCAC) this afternoon and ran way with
a 12-5 victory. Trinity netted the first three goals of the contest
just under six mintues in before the Ephs Whitney Thayer got one
back.
Trinity opened up an 8-2 lead at the half out scoring the Ephs
5-1 after the Thayer tally. Margie Fulton notched the Ephs' second
goal at 7:57.
“We had to play a perfect game today to beat them,”
noted Eph head coach Chris Mason. “We didn't. They
forced a lot of turnovers with their speed and quickness and hard
pressure in the midfield. We also had some unforced errors that
didn't help.”
Williams turned the ball over 13 times on the day to just five
miscues by Trinity.Trinty also snared 15 of the 19 ground balls in
the game.
Still there were some bright spots for the Ephs as junior goalie
Julia Schreiber turned in another solid effort. “Julia had
some really nice saves and played well,” said Mason.
Schreiber turned aside 10 Trinity shots in the contest, while the
Bantams' Gina Dinallo was credited with five saves.
On offense first year attack Sam Weinstein created problems for
the Bantam defense. “Sam's very agile and strong on her
feet and that allows her to get around players and when she does
she really fires the ball on the net,” commented Mason.
“She's dynamic and aggressive.”
Weisntein and Thayer led the Eph attack with two goals each.
Trinity received hat tricks for Rachel Romanowsky and Sarah Remes.
Trinity out shot Williams by 10 in the contest, 27-17.
The Ephs will be back on the road Wednesday when they travel to
New London, Connecticut for a 4:30 pm NESCAC encounter with the
Camels of Connecticut College.
