WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — Williams College first year Cedar Blazek hit a walk-off, two-run home run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning Wednesday, giving the Ephs game one of a doubleheader with Western New England College, 4-2.

Blazek homered twice in the first game victory for Williams, but the Ephs could not come up with the big hit in the nightcap, dropping a 4-3 decision to the visiting Golden Bears.

Williams is now 4-12 on the season. The Ephs host NESCAC West and Little 3 rival Wesleyan at 5 p.m. Friday. WNEC moved to 11-10 with the split.

In the opener, the Ephs took an early lead in the third when Allison Hart roped a two-out double. Caitlyn Cain followed with a single through the left side that allowed Hart to score. It stayed 1-0 until the top of the sixth, when WNEC's Elyse Gauvin drew a lead-off walk and came around to score on a wild pitch. Trish Breault then scored the go-ahead run on a one-out double by Sarah Lempicki.

In the bottom of the sixth, Blazek greeted WNEC reliever Victoria Lospinuso with a solo home run to center field that tied the game at two. WNEC threatened in its half of the seventh but, with two outs and runners on first and second, Eph starter Megan casey induced a grounder to first off the bat of Breault.

In the Ephs' seventh, Cain lined a single to left and advanced to second on a groundout by Merrilee Weston. Blazek followed with a blast to left center to win the game. She finished 2 for 4 with three RBI in the win. Amanda Correnti was 2 for 3, and both Hart and Cain were 2 for 4.

Casey pitched brilliantly for the Ephs, allowing four hits and two walks over seven innings while striking out eight. Only one of the runs she allowed was earned.

In the nightcap, WNEC scored a run in the first and three in the third to build a 4-0 lead, then held off the Ephs for the victory. In the Golden Bears' first, Breault reached on a two-base error and scored on Lempicki's RBI-single.  In the third, WNEC had two outs and nobody on, but a walk, an error, and RBI-single by Breault and a two-run single by Lempicki made it 4-0.

Williams clawed its way back with two in the third when Hart singled and stole second and, after an out, scored on Blazek's RBI-single up the middle. Blazek took second on the throw home and scored on Mary Beth Daub's two-out single.

Williams added its third run in the fourth when Erica Wu doubled and scored on a throwing error while taking third on a wild pitch. In the fifth, WNEC's Gauvin relieved starter Rachelle Fecteau and nearly gave up the lead when Blazek blasted a high, arching shot to center. WNEC center fielder Lauren Arsenault caught the ball with her back up against the fence.

The Ephs would threaten again in the sixth when Oriana Mcgee lashed a one-out double down the left-field line, but Gauvin retired the next two batters. With two outs in the seventh, Daub singled up the middle, but a groundout to second ended the game.

Lempicki was 2 for 3 with three RBI for WNEC. Arsenault and Christina Farese were both 2 for 4. Williams outhit the Golden Bears in the loss, with both Daub and Hart going 3 for 4.

Daub took the loss, despite giving up no earned runs over seven frames. She allowed seven hits and two walks while striking out four.
