WILLIAMSTOWN, MA. – Williams
women's tennis (17-2, 8-0 NESCAC) closed out their regular
season with a 9-0 sweep of Wesleyan (10-7, 2-7). With
the victory, the Ephs finish their conference record with a perfect
8-0 mark and clinch the Little Three title for the first time since
2008 and the ninth time since 1990. Williams will also play
as the number one seed in the upcoming NESCAC
tournament.
Williams has been mixing up their traditional doubles pairs all
weekend long. Kristin Alotta and Nikki Reich moved up one
spot to court one for a quick 8-1 victory. Taylor French and
Ashley Parsons paired up at court two for another 8-1 win, while
Caroline Capute and Veranika Li closed out the doubles sweep with
an equally dominant 8-2 victory.
Singles played out in a similar fashion to doubles.
Williams won six straight set wins. Grace Baljon played her
usual spot at court one, handling the competition with ease in a
6-2, 6-4 showing. Lucy Marchese was almost as perfect as
yesterdays afternoon singles match, giving up just one game in the
first set today to take a 6-1, 6-0 win at her highest spot of the
year at court two.
Nancy Worley, Parsons and Li continued to play great tennis at
courts three, four, and six respectively. Katie Friedman had
the match of the day, delivering a double bagel blow to her
Wesleyan counterpart at court six, 6-0, 6-0.
“I'm really proud of our girls, and winning the
Little Three is a huge achievement and we are very excited about
it,” said Williams head coach Alison Swain. “We
still feel like we have room for improvement in the next few weeks
and we will be looking for each practice to get better and best
prepare for NESCACs and NCAAs.”
Williams will resume play in the first round of the NESCAC
tournament this Friday.
