NEW LONDON, CT. One factor divided Williams (1-2, 0-2
NESCAC) from the Camels (3-0, 2-0 NESCAC) Saturday afternoon in
their third game of the season. Conn. College finished in
front of the cage while the Ephs failed to convert their efforts
into goals. Eph head coach Alix Barrale summed it up when she
said, "We played well, but not well enough."
Each team battled for possession in the first half, but the
Camels gained momentum when they managed to tally the game winning
goal early off a penalty corner insertion at 4:10.
Connecticut College forward Britt Fitzgerald found the back of the
net off an assist by teammate Abby Hine to bring the Camels to a
1-0 lead.
Connecticut acquired their second, unassisted goal at 64:39 by
Hine in the second frame raising the score to a 2-0 advantage that
would remain for the rest of the competition. A 12-4 penalty
corner edge for the game provided more opportunities in the circle
for the Camels as reflected in their 13-8 shot lead over the
Ephs.
Additionally, losing Williams' senior team captain Lindsay Davies
(Greenwich, Conn.) to an injury in the second half proved to be a
challenging setback for the Ephs. Meera Sivalingam
(Philadelphia, Penn.) and Ariel Lyddane
(Greenwich, Conn.) led the offense for the Ephs taking 4 and 3
shots respectively.
Eph goalie Katrina Tulla (New
Canaan, Conn.) had two goals allowed for her 70 minutes of play,
but she was active in the net tallying 7 saves to the 4 acquired by
Camel goalie Aimee Rich. Rich also played the full 70 minute
regulation game.
"Today we had a strong effort, but we just weren't
finishing. Connecticut has been scoring well this season and
they simply converted today," commented Barrale.
The Ephs will play next this Saturday at home against Colby at
11AM.
