NORTHFIELD, VT- The Williams College grapplers stormed into Norwich University and dominated their tri-meet. Against two worthy opponents, Norwich University and University of Southern Maine, Williams went undefeated. Neither match was in question for long.
The Ephs depth was on display. Coach Rich Hasenfus called on fourteen different wrestlers who won fifteen of their twenty matches on the day.
In their first match against Norwich, Josh Mattana started the Ephs roll with a second period pin over Robby Zyko. Senior Corey Paulish was in control his entire match and edged Evan Poole in a 9-2 decision.
Joining Mattana and Paulish in the winning column were Taylor Treadgold, Rob Brackup, Kyle Martin, Ryan Malo, and Nikola Mirkovic. These seven victories helped the Ephs to a 30-15 Victory over Norwich.
Williams' second match of the day against University of Southern Maine was never in doubt. After USM forfeited the 125 pound match Kaison Tanabe increased the Ephs lead by defeating Billy Cole handily. The final match score was 10-4. In his shortest appearance of the season thus far, Corey Paulish needed only 1:02 to pin his opponent, Logan Russell.
Riding this momentum the Ephs won five of their next six matches. An incredible four of which came by pin-fall, the fifth was a USM forfeit against Senior Ryan Malo who is currently ranked second in the country and first in NEWA.
The final score of the match was 45-8, Williams.
The Ephs have a few days off before they travel down to AIC to compete in their final regular season match. Action is set for Wednesday February, 16th at 7:00 pm.
