Hartford – The women traveled to Trinity College this weekend to compete in the annual NESCAC championship. Seeded number two, behind Trinity, the women knew they would have to play well if they wanted the place second. Coming straight from the disappointing 5-4 loss to Brown, the women were mentally exhausted, but they tried to clear there minds for a hopefully more encouraging weekend. The women took on Wesleyan first in the quarterfinals, defeating them 9-0.
Their second match was against Middlebury. The women had been anticipating this decisive match for a while, and knew they had a very tough match ahead of them. Coach Zafi Levy told the team that he truly believed we could win if we played up to our potential. Knowing this, the women went into the match determined to win, however, they were pushed to their limits, mentally and physically, losing to the Panthers in a close 6-3. The top three, Courtney Bogle, Laura Henry, and Alli Rubin, pulled out the crucial wins, while Alyssa Northrop and Kavitha Mannava lost in extremely close five gamers. Very disappointed with the result, the women were hungry to beat Bates in the consolation final for a third place finish. Having beaten Bates 7-2 earlier in the season, the women knew they had it in them, however, they also knew they would have to fight hard to remain victorious. The women focused, channeling all of their anger from the disappointing finish with Middlebury, and pulled out a 6-3 win, as well as a third place finish for the NESCAC championship.
The women now look forward to their rematch against Middlebury this weekend, as well as Nationals.
