WILLIAMSTOWN, MA––Williams (4-2, 1-2 NESCAC) beat RPI (4-2, 0-0 Liberty League) 9-6. Williams has won the last two times the teams have met.
The teams played an even game for the first twenty minutes, with RPI's Shannon Maguire scoring the first goal of the game two minutes in. Williams responded right away with juniors Margie Fulton and Kaitlin Ellis combining to put one behind goalie Allie Arnal. RPI scored again three minutes later, but Rebecca McGovern's goal, assisted by Taylor Fleishhacker, at 9:44 sparked an Eph run that RPI never recovered from. The goal was McGovern's first career goal.
Two goals by Ellis and another by Fulton gave Williams a solid 5-2 lead heading into halftime. Despite the score, the first half was relatively even, with the Engineers outshooting the Ephs 10-8 and each team recording 4 draw controls.
The second half was a closer game. The Engineers and the Ephs traded goals for much of the half, but the Ephs proved triumphant. RPI scored first, making the score 5-3 with 27:33 left to play. Fulton and Ellis combined for another goal before Engineers Alissa Peterson and Whitney Kukol put another one away. Five minutes later, Fleishhacker, assisted by Emily Jablonski, kept the margin at three.
RPI scored two more goals to make the score 7-6 in Williams' favor with 14 minutes left to play. Jablonski scored to give the Ephs a little distance, and with 46 seconds remaining, Fulton scored one more insurance goal, making the final score 9-6.
Schreiber played all 60 minutes for the Ephs and recorded 15 saves.
Williams plays at Union College tomorrow at 4:30pm.
