SARATOGA, NY— The Williams Women's Tennis team got a win over a quality opponent on Saturday, topping Skidmore 9-0.
Williams was in control from the beginning, taking the doubles session 3-0. The top pair of Nikki Reich and Lucy Marchese took down their opponents 8-0, and Kristin Alotta and Taylor French weren't far behind, taking their pro-set 8-1.
The Ephs continued the momentum into singles play, each winning in six sets. Kara Shoemaker had the match of the day for Williams at the number five position, blanking her opponent 6-0, 6-0.
"The team really set the tone today with our doubles play. They took that aggressive mentality into singles as well, and it was a strong showing on all courts. I was very pleased with how we competed and implemented our game plan on each court," said head coach Alison Swain after the match.
Williams will play archrival Amherst Sunday on its home courts. The match pits the top two teams in the nation against each other. Amherst is currently ranked number one in the nation, one spot in front of Williams. The Lord Jeffs dealt the Ephs their only loss of the fall season, taking a 5-4 decision in Amherst. Match time is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
