Williams Loses to Bowdoin 12-5

BRUNSWICK, ME––Williams (8-6, 3-4 NESCAC) fell 12-5 to Bowdoin (10-2, 5-2 NESCAC).   The 18th-ranked Ephs have played the 12th-ranked Polar Bears since 1989 and Williams leads the all time series 14-10. Today's game leaves Bowdoin tied for second place in the NESCAC while Williams is tied with Bates for seventh. Both teams will complete their regular-season play next weekend.

Kaitlin Ellis and Rebecca McGovern led the Ephs' offense, scoring two goals apiece. Emily Jablonski also contributed a goal and an assist. Goalkeeper Julia Schreiber returned from the injured list, playing all 60 minutes and making 19 saves.

Head Coach Chris Mason said "Schreiber played very well, but we have to all play well together. There were times when we did some good things, but we need to be more consistent and work together more. "

Bowdoin's attack was led by Katie Stewart, who had five goals. Liz Clegg, McKenna Teague, and Jordan Smith also contributed two goals each.

Bowdoin scored in the first minute of play, but two Williams goals gave the Ephs their only lead of the game eight minutes in. The Polar Bears then went on a five-goal run, broken by Ellis at 8:31. Smith scored with 8:13 remaining to make the score 7-3 heading into the half.

The Polar Bears continued their first-half momentum, scoring three more goals in the first twelve minutes of the second half. Ellis scored her second goal at 6:21 on a free position shot. Bowdoin scored twice more, and Williams once, to end the game 12-5.

Mason concluded saying "I felt very frustrated with the game. Bowdoin is a very good team but I felt like we didn't play hard enough. We looked nervous...the weather was horrible, but those are the conditions we have to deal with. They played harder than we did, which is the most upsetting thing."

The Ephs host No. 11 Middlebury on Friday April 29th at 4:30pm.
