AMHERSRT, MA––Williams (6-5, 2-4 NESCAC) fell 9-4 to rival Amherst (6-3, 2-3 NESCAC). The Ephs and Jeffs battled during the first half, but Amherst pulled away in the second, scoring five unanswered goals to secure the win.
Williams goals were scored by senior tri-captain Anne Marie Burke, Margie Fulton'12, Katie Pettengill'13 and Emily Whicker'13. Amherst's offense was led by Allie Horowitz'11. Tri-captain Julia Schreiber face eleven shots and recorded two saves for the Ephs.
Head Coach Chris Mason said "We did not play well. We didn't handle the ball well offensively. We need a little more awareness defensively, we weren't seeing more than one thing at a time. We weren't aware of more than one thing at a time."
The Ephs fell early in the first half, giving up three goals in the first six minutes. Burke responded early, scoring with 21 minutes left in the half. Pettengill, assisted by Fulton, scored two minutes later and the score remained 3-2 for the remainder of the half.
The second half belonged to the Jeffs, with the Ephs giving up five unanswered goals before Whicker scored with just over six minutes left to play. Amherst scored once more, but Fulton, assisted by classmate Meera Sivalingam, had the final word of the game, scoring with
Mason concluded saying, "They worked hard, we just didn't do the basic things well enough, and sometimes didn't make basic decisions."
Williams will next play Skidmore on Wednesday, April 13th at 7pm.
