WILLIAMSTOWN-- The #4 Williams Women's tennis team improved to 8-1 Saturday with a 7-2 win against conference foe #12 Bowdoin.

Williams was able to hold a 2-1 lead after doubles play, as Nikki Reich and Lucy Marchese won 8-6 at the top position, and Caroline Capute and Nancy Worley won 8-6 at number three.

The Ephs turned in another strong performance in singles play, winning five of six matches. Caroline Capute turned in the performance of the day. Capute lost the first set 4-6, then rebounded to win 6-2 in the second, and clinched the match in an 11-9 a super tiebreak. Nancy Worley, Lucy Marchese, Kathleen Elkins, and Kara Shoemaker each won in straight sets.

"Today was a great home opener from us. Bowdoin is a tough team who competes well and continually adjusts their game. I thought we did a nice job of playing aggressive tennis, particularly on big points," commented head coach Alison Swain after the match.

Up next for Williams is Skidmore next Saturday, followed by Amherst at home Sunday. The Lord Jeffs are currently #2 in the nation, and dealt the Ephs their only loss of the fall season.
