The Williams women's ice hockey team (1-1/1-1 NESCAC) played a similar game to their opener, however, this time they came out on top 2-0. The Ephs again out shot Wesleyan, 33-23, only today they capitalized on their chances and got the puck in the back of the net twice.
One of the biggest phases of the game was in the special teams area. Williams scored on the power play after some great play down low by Cristina Bravi and Aimee Dennett, which lead to a pass to Gabrielle Vukasin who was able to finish in the middle of the slot.
There were 13 penalties committed, seven by the Ephs and six by Wesleyan. Williams played really well while shorthanded, especially in the third period when they killed off four penalties.
Aimee Dennett played extremely well in both games this weekend, setting the tone for the offense this season. She generated scoring chances all weekend long and played well overall. Caitlin Conlon established a presence for the Ephs on defense.
The game was still in doubt until the second goal was scored by sophomore, Andree Heller, on a on a tip-in off a shot by freshman Natalie Bernstein. Heller re-directed the puck to the back of the net to put Williams up 2-0 with 2:55 remaining. Wesleyan did not give up and had some chances late but Billadeau denied them all and the Ephs came out on top 2-0.
Head coach Meghan Gillis was pleased with the win, saying "We were relentless in our attack. We got shots on net and were eventually able to beat Wesleyan's goaltender. Special teams were key, which lead to a lot of takeaways which led to our goals."
Eph netminder Chloe Billadeau turned aside 23 shots in recording the shutout, while Wesleyan's Ashleigh Corvi stopped 30 of 32 Eph attempts.
Next up for the Ephs is to open up at home against the University of New England on November 24. The Ephs play five of their next seven games at home, which they hope will help them close out the first semster in a strong fashion.
