CLERMONT, FL. — The Williams College softball team had its two-game win streak snapped today, falling 9-4 in an early morning game against NESCAC rival Tufts and losing the second game, 7-6, to Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Williams stands at 3-7. The Ephs are off Sunday and play MIT and Oberlin Monday as their spring break trip continues.
The Tufts game was scoreless through the first three innings, but the Jumbos put two on the board in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth to build a 5-0 lead. The Ephs got two back in their half of the sixth when Kaitlin Dinet and Ali Hart singled. With two outs, Ally Ensor lined a two-run single to make it 5-2.
Tufts responded with four in the top of the seventh to blow the game open. Junior Megan Casey started and took the loss for Williams, tossing 6 2/3 innings and allowing 14 hits and nine runs, all earned, while walking four and striking out six.
Ensor was 2 for 3 with two RBI and Dinet for 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Williams jumped out to a 4-0 lead against Whitewater and led 6-4 going into the bottom of the sixth.
Hart led off the Williams first with a single. Theresa Legan followed with a single. Ensor drew a walk to load the bases. Ali Graebner followed with a two-run double to right. Merrilee Weston then lined another two-run double for a 4-0 lead.
Hart led the Ephs by going 3 for 4 with two runs scored. Legan was 2 for 4 with an RBI.
