CLERMONT, FL. -- The Williams College softball team improved to 5-7 on the season by rolling to victories over MIT (9-2) and Oberlin College (3-2) Monday.
The Ephs play a doubleheader against undefeated DePauw University Tuesday beginning at 9 a.m.
In the win over MIT, the Ephs put a four-spot up in the top of the first and never looked back. Ali Hart got things going by reaching on an error. Theresa Legan followed with a single and advanced to second when Hart stole third. Ally Ensor lined a two-run single and took second on the throw home. Lindsey Precht followed with an RBI-single. Ali Graebner walked and eventually scored on a passed ball combined with an error on the MIT pitcher.
Williams added two in third when Merrilee Weston singled home a run and came around to score on an error.
Williams finished with 13 hits, led by Weston who was 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. Hart hit 3 for 5 with two runs scored and three stolen bases. Ensor was 2 for 3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Precht was 2 for 4 with an RBI and run scored.
Emma Harrington earned the win, going the first four innings and allowing two hits and two runs, only one earned. She did not walk a batter and struck out four. Kaitlin Dinet finished up with three hitless and scoreless innings of relief.
The Ephs then posted a come-from-behind win over Oberlin, scoring three times in the bottom of the fifth en route to the 3-2 win. Emalie Rott got the start in the circle for Williams, tossing the first 3 1/3 innings and allowing six hits, two runs, one earned, whie walking two. Megan casey earned the win in relief, hurling the final 3 2/3 innings and allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out three.
While Casey was shutting Oberlin down, her teammates rallied at the dish. Amanda Correnti started the fifth with a single and was sacrificed to second by Rott. After the second out, which advanced Correnti to third, Hart walked and took second on a wild pitch. Another wild pitch scored Correnti. Legan then singled home Hart to tie the game at two. Ensor and Graebner then produced back-to-back singles, with the latter scoring Legan with what proved to be the winning run.
The Ephs had seven hits, led by Ensor, who was 2 for 3.
