CLINTON, N.Y. -- Ali Hart and Lindsey Precht had three hits each Friday as the Williams College softball team overcame six errors to pull out an 11-7 win over Hamilton College.
The Ephs improved to 18-16 on the season and 5-5 in the NESCAC West Division. The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon.
Friday, Williams took a 4-0 lead in the top of the second and never looked back. With two outs and runners on second and third, Precht lined a two-run single. Mo Frank followed with a ground-rule double down the right-field line that made it 3-0. Hart then doubled to left to score Frank for a 4-0 advantage.
Hamilton cut the Williams lead to 4-3, but the Ephs responded with four runs in the top of the fourth to make it 8-3. Merrilee Weston led of the frame with a triple and scored on Precht's second hit of the day. After an out, Hart launched her team-leading fifth home run of the season, a line shot down the right-field line. With two outs, Ally Ensor doubled to left and moved to third on a wild pitch. She scored when Emalie Rott singled to center.
Hamilton cut the deficit to two when Kelly Leonard lined a three-run double with two outs in the fifth. The scored stayed 8-6 until the top of the seventh when Williams added three runs. Rott singled and Zoe Dillon-Davidson doubled to right center. Kaitlin Dinet then singled to bring home Rott and Weston hit a sacrifice fly to score Dillon-Davidson. Precht doubled home Dinet with the final run. She finished 3 for 4 with four RBI in the win, while Hart was 3 for 5 with three RBI. Rott was 2 for 3 and Ensor was 2 for 4.
Megan Casey earned the win for Williams, improving to 5-7. She allowed 10 hits and seven runs, only three of which were earned. She walked two and struck out two.
