Ephs Go 2-1 on first day of the Budd Whitehill Duals

 Today, Lycoming College hosted the first day of the Budd Whitehill Duals, where Williams College faced off against John Carroll University, Waynesburg University, and Case Western Reserve University. As a team, the Ephs went 2-1 on the first day of the tournament, losing only to John Carroll University. "The first day went really well," noted head coach Scott Honecker. "There wasn't a single match that we didn't go all out in."

Honecker continued to remark that the team was "led by our seniors," Kaison Tanabe, Ces Anista, and Tom Foote, who each went 3-0 on the day individually. Kaison, Ces, and Tom, wrestled at 133, 141, and 285 respectively.

One of the other major highlights of the day was another breakout performance from freshman Jorge Lopez, coming back from a 6-3 deficit to defeat Dan Mirman with a 4:52 pin. Mirman was ranked  5th, but Jorge went on to go 3-0 on the day, wrestling at 149.

At 125, Dan Sedita went 1-2 on the day. Tim Garippoli went 2-1 wrestling at 157, beating his opponent 16-0, which resulted in a technical fall.

Wrestling at 184, Anthony Brooks went 1-2 on the day as well, defeating his Case Western Reserve opponent in a major decision.

John Berry wrestled at 174, going 1-1 on the day with Mir Henglin subbing into his spot for the match against Waynesburg.

Dan Kurnick also went 2-1, pinning his last rival in 2:12.

The Ephs look forward to the second day as they prepare for Heidelburg University in the morning. "We're really excited to get back on the mats and to build on our work today," added Honecker. For more information or updated results, check out the tournament's website: here .
