Women's Squash Takes Down Middlebury 5-4

MIDDLEBURY, VT – Women's squash beat Middlebury 5-4 in a thrilling match on Friday evening. The Ephs traveled to Middlebury knowing that the match would be a tough one, but the players were able to come through in the end and earn a victory for the day.

Ellie O'Neill (#3) was the first player off the court to record a win for the Ephs. After dropping the first game, O'Neill stormed back to take the next three. On the next court over, Caroline Sawin (#6) was having a close battle with her opponent. With the match score tied at two games apiece, Sawin came back from behind to record a second win for the Ephs. On the third court, Lily Grant (#9) had a tough four game loss, but after the first round of matches, the Ephs were ahead 2-1.

Next up cameNicole Feshbach (#5) and Alli Rubin (#2). After making some great comebacks in the first games, co-captain Rubin was eventually defeated in a close five game match. Feshbach was able to come off the court victorious for the Ephs in another close five games.

Alyssa Northrop (#4) was the only player of the day to record a 3-0 victory over her opponent. Northrop played an impressive match, and got the Ephs within one win away from taking the victory home.

Last up to play were Mia Fry (#8), Hannah Kaemmer (#7), and Laura Henry (#1). The last win of the day for the Ephs came from co-captain Henry, who after leading 2-0, dropped the next two games, but recovered in a clutch fifth game and secured the victory for Williams. Kaemmer lost in a narrow five game match and Fry was defeated in four.

Henry was happy with how the women played. "Every year Middlebury is one of our closest competitors," commented Henry. "The physical and mental strength of every member of the team enabled a successful start for the close matches throughout the rest of the season."

Head coach Zafi Levy agreed. "It was a great win for the team tonight," added Levy. "I'm extremely proud of the way we played against a very good Middlebury team. We showed real progress and look forward to another tough match on Sunday versus Bates."

The Ephs come home to play two more matches this weekend. With Saturday off, they return to the court on Sunday to face Bates at noon and Mount Holyoke at 4 pm in the Simon Squash Center.
