Women's Squash Falls to Brown 5-4

WILLIAMSTOWN – Women's squash begins their final weekend at home with a heartbreaking loss versus Brown. The Ephs fought hard, but were defeated 5-4 at the hands of one of their strongest opponents.

The evening had close matches at almost position. Caroline Sawin (#6) was first off the court with a win for Williams with a clutch victory in five games. After she found herself down 2-1 heading into the fourth game, Sawin stormed back to take the next two – winning 11-7 in the fifth. After the first round of matches, the women found themselves down 2-1 after Mia Fry (#9) lost in three and Ellie O'Neill (#3) was defeated in a close four game match.

The pressure was on for the next round of matches, but the Ephs rose to the occasion, taking this round 2-1 to tie the match 3-3. Co-captain Laura Henry (#2) had a particularly impressive victory, defeating her Brown opponent in three games. Nicole Feshbach (#5) was also victorious, finishing off her adversary 11-9 in the fourth game.

The last round of matches were all close, but unfortunately for the Ephs, only one went their way. Co-captain Alli Rubin (#1) played a close match, but was eventually defeated in four close games. Hannah Kaemmer (#7) fought a long and hard battle on the court next door. After winning the first two games, her opponent proved resilient and came back to take the next three. Alyssa Northrop (#4) exited the court with a victory for the Ephs, but it was too late, with Williams already giving up five matches.

Even though Friday evening ended in a loss for the Ephs, Henry is confident that if they face Brown again at nationals, the result will be different. "We knew Brown was going to be a tough competitor," commented Henry. "Everyone fought hard and we are looking forward to three strong matches throughout the rest of the weekend."

Williams will battle for their 14th consecutive Little Three Title on Saturday, with matches at 11 am and 3 pm against Wesleyan and Amherst, respectively. The weekend does not end there though, with their final home match of the season coming on Sunday at noon versus Columbia.
