Men's Squash Continues Skid

PHILADELPHIA-- The Williams men's squash team finished a disappointing weekend with losses to Drexel and Princeton on Sunday.

Williams looked to rebound from a tough loss to Penn yesterday in an important at Drexel Sunday morning. Drexel has been an up and coming program in recent years and the Ephs knew they would be a stern test.

Drexel got off to a hot start in the first round of matches. Taylor Foehl split his first two games and held a commanding lead in the third, but was unable to close and would lose in four. Tyler Conroy played went down 2-1 but won his fourth game 11-9. In the fifth game, he fought off two match balls but would eventually lose 11-9.

Chris Wilkinson got the Ephs on the board with a 3-0 win at number 5, and Kai Graham pulled the Ephs within one with a nice 3-1 win at number eight. Kevin Chen trailed 2-0 but played two solid games to tie the match at two a piece, tiring his opponent out in the process. In the fifth, Chen played incredibly steady squash and did not lose a point. Andy Maruca gave Williams their fourth point with a swift 3-0 win at number seven.

Michael Petrick trailed 2-0 but won his third game, only to lose his fourth 11-9, drawing the score at 4-4.

First year Jamie Ruggeiro took the court at number one for Williams and won his first game 13-11. Drexel's crafty Egyptian proved too much in the end, however, and gave Drexel the win.

After the match, Williams immediately boarded the bus to drive to Princeton. Once there, they got on court and the effects of a long weekend were visible. Williams was overwhelmed against a good Princeton team. First year John Shuck was the lone bright spot for the Ephs at the number nine position. Shuck led 2-1 and was up 9-7 in his fifth game, but was unable to close the deal, losing 11-9.

After Thanksgiving, Williams will play Yale, St. Lawerence, and Colby before winter break.
