MIDDLETOWN-- The Williams women's tennis team finished their first weekend of the spring 2-0 with a 7-2 win Sunday over Wesleyan.
Williams proved their depth in doubles play, as the top team of Maria Pylypiv and Kathleen Elkins lost 8-2, but the number two and three teams both won. Nancy Worley and Veranika Li took down their opponents 8-2 at number two, and Alex Stone and Maya Hart earned an 8-4 win at number three.
Holding a 2-1 lead after doubles, Williams pulled away during the singles session. Kathleen Elkins did not drop a game on the way to a 6-0, 6-0 win at number three. Alex Stone and Riqui McCoy each dropped only one game in their wins at numbers five and six, respectively. Kara Shoemaker and Nancy Worley were the other Eph winners.
"Playing two matches before spring break has been a great opportunity for us," said head coach Alison Swain after the match. "We're looking forward to a focused week of practices before we head to California."
Williams will be busy again over break, as they will play eight matches in ten days while on the West Coast.
