Ephs Top Pomona-Pitzer

POMONA, CA-- The Williams women's tennis team picked up another win in California on Wednesday, this time defeating Pomona-Pitzer on their home courts, 7-2.

The match started with singles play due to limited court space, and all six Williams players came ready to play, as no Eph dropped a set. The numbers four and five players, Nancy Worley, Maria Pylypiv each took down their opponents by an identical score of 6-2, 6-1. Alex Stone added a 6-2, 6-3 win at number six.

The top three faced slightly more resistance. Kara Shoemaker and Kathleen Elkins each won their matches 6-3, 6-2, while Rebecca Curran won 6-4, 6-2.

Williams struggled again in doubles play, but this time the match was already in hand by the time the session started. The number three team of Nancy Worley and Veronika Li was the only pair to win, taking their pro-set in a tiebreak.

"I think everybody feels good about taking all the singles in straight sets," commented head coach Alison Swain.

Williams completes their spring break trip with a crucial NESCAC match against Middlebury on Thursday.
