Women's Tennis Opens Season With Win

SARATOGA-- The Williams women's tennis team opened up their Spring 2013 season on Saturday with a 9-0 win over Skidmore.

Williams got off to a fast start in doubles play. The number three team of Nancy Worley and Veronika Li won their pro-set 8-3 and Kara Shoemaker and Rebecca Curran won theirs 8-5. Kathleen Elkins and Maria Pylypiv gave Williams a 3-0 after winning their pro-set in a tie-break.

Williams was able to keep the momentum rolling through singles play, as all six won in straight sets. Elkins, Worley, and Pylypiv each won one of their sets 6-0 at numbers 3, 4, and 5, respectively. First year Alex Stone got her first career spring season win at number 6, 6-3. 6-3.

"It felt good to be back on court again competing. I think the match helped us to see where we can improve this week in practice," commented head coach Alison Swain.
