Ephs Collect Win Over Tufts

WILLIAMSTOWN-- The Williams women's tennis team picked up another conference win on Saturday, this time taking down Tufts, 9-0. 

 

With the win the ephs inproved to 12-3 on the year and 3-1 in NESCAC, while Tufts falls to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in NESCAC.

Williams came out hot in doubles play to secure a 3-0 lead. The number one team of Rebecca Curran and Kara Shoemaker and the number three pair of Nancy Worley and Veronika Li each took their matches 8-1. Maria Pylypiv and Kathleen Elkins won their proset 8-3 at number two. 

Williams won all six singles matches, but had to survive a couple of tiebreaks to do so. Kara Shoemaker and Rebecca Curran each won their first set in a tiebreak. Shoemaker turned up the pressure and took her second set 6-1, but Curran had to fight hard again, earning a 6-4 win. The rest of the Ephs played strong tennis, with nobody dropping more than three games in a set. 

"We played assertive tennis today across the board," said head coach Alison Swain. "Everyone was really looking to control the points in their respective matches and that translated into some of the most aggressive play we've displayed so far this spring." 

Williams will travel to Clinton, NY next weekend for a pair of matches against University of Rochester and Hamilton.
