Women's Tennis Tops Mules

WILLIAMSTOWN-- The Williams women's tennis team bounced back from yesterday's loss to Amherst with a 9-0 win over Colby on Sunday.

Williams got off to a strong start in doubles and never looked back. Kara Shoemaker and Rebecca Curran took their pro-set 8-3 at the top position. Kathleen Elkins and Maria Pylypiv were dominant at number two, winning 8-0 and Nancy Worley and Veranika Li won 8-4 at number three.

Williams cruised in singles play as well, winning all six matches in straight sets. First year Alex Stone put in a solid 6-0, 6-1 performance playing at number three. Senior Veronika Li provided another highlight, winning 6-0, 6-0 in her final regular season match.

"Despite the cold temperatures, it was great to play our last regular season match outdoors on our home courts," said head coach Alison Swain. "Nancy (Worley) and Veranika (Li) brought home 3 of our 9 points today with solid wins in both doubles and singles.  These two seniors have grown into tremendous physical, mental and tactical players over their four years, and their play today was indicative of how much they have improved in four years."
