HARTFORD-- The Williams women's tennis team concluded their 2012-2013 regular season with a road win over Trinity College on Saturday.
Williams got off to a 3-0 start after doubles thanks to a tight 9-7 win at number three from Nancy Worley and Veronika Li. The other two pairs cruised to 8-1 and 8-3 wins.
Williams won five of six singles matches, but needed to win several tight sets in order to to do so. Kara Shoemaker and Kathleen Elkins each needed a tiebreak to win one set in their straight set victories. Alex Stone won her first set 7-5 before pulling away in the second, 6-1. Monica Pastor crusied to a 6-2, 6-0 win and Worley led her opponent, Regan Cherna, 6-1, 1-0 before Cherna retired.
Williams will begins postseason play as five time defending national champion.
