NEW HAVEN, CT – Women's squash traveled to New Haven to play George Washington University and Franklin & Marshall in the Yale Round Robin. The weekend began on Friday evening at 7:30 pm with the Ephs 9-0 loss to George Washington. However, the Ephs were able to leave Yale with a win after defeating F&M 9-0 on Saturday morning.
Friday's match versus George Washington featured many tough and close matches, however no women were able to take a match off of their respective opponents. One of the highlights of the day came from Lily Grant (#6), who narrowly lost her match in five. Ellen Coombe (#5) also had a tough match that ended in her defeat in the fifth game. Caroline Sawin (#3) and Nicole Feshbach (#4) were both able to get a game off of their respective opponents, but neither were able to get two more and eventually fell 3-1.
Saturday's match brought more success for the Ephs as they only dropped three total games in route to a 9-0 match victory over F&M. After losing the first game, Charlotte Walsh (#9) was able to regain control and won the next three games to take the match 3-1. Co-captain Alyssa Northrop had a strong performance at the number 1 position, coming through victorious in a hard fought five game match. All other members of the women's team were able to come away with 3-0 victories.
"The women's team had a really sold performance today against F&M," commented co-captain Ellie O'Neill (#2). "We didn't drop many games and it was great preparation for the Little Three's tomorrow at Amherst."
On Sunday, January 26th, Williams will travel to Amherst to play for the Little Three Title. The Ephs have won the past 14 years in a row and hope to make it 15 with victories over Amherst and Wesleyan tomorrow.
