Waterville, ME – The Williams women's tennis team (18-1/7-1 NESCAC) finished their regular season on a high note, defeating Colby (4-7/1-7 NESCAC). With the rain forcing all matches to be played indoors, Williams swept their opponents 9-0, ending their regular season with only one loss.
Setting the tone early, doubles pairs dispatched their opponents, dropping only one game in the three matches. Shoemaker/Curran and Pylypiv/Elkins both won 8-0, while Shin/Stone won their match 8-1.
The story was much the same in singles play. Despite some shifting of the roster, Williams had little trouble earning the victory. First-year Hannah Atkinson, playing in the number three slot, won her match 6-0, 6-0, while Monica Pastor stepped up in the number two spot, winning 6-1, 6-1. Elkins, Stone, Hart and Trapness all won their matches as well.
"It was a strong finish to our regular season," said Coach Alison Swain. "We are excited to be heading to the NESCAC tournament this coming weekend."
