WATERVILLE, ME - The Williams College Ephs (7-7-1) lost a close game this afternoon against the Colby College Mules, 2-1. Though the Ephs outshot Colby 34 to 16, the Mules tied up the series 1-1 after losing to the Ephs last night 3-1. Junior Megan Fortier (Falmouth, ME) scored the game-winning goal with 8:29 to go in the third period.
The Ephs and the Mules were evenly matched in the first period, as the score remained dead-locked at 0-0.
In the second frame, action picked up at 10:10 when senior Lauren Guarante (Wellesley, MA) scored, assisted by sophomore Katie McLaughlin (Glenburn, ME) and junior Megan Fortier (Falmouth, ME). The Ephs tied up the game seven minutes later with a power play goal by sophomore Sara Lehman (Lexington, MA) assisted by sophomore Hanna Beattie (Whitehouse Station, NJ).
In the final period, Fortier scored at 11:31 to give the Mules the lead once more. With just under a minute to go in the period, Williams pulled freshman goalie Christina Cleroux (New Glascow, NS) but were unable to capitalize on the one man advantage.
Williams is now 4-3-1 in NESCAC play while Colby is 2-8-0.
"We are stilling looking to play more consistently. We had a lot of good chances, but so did Colby. We will continue to work on aggressive play and competing for 60 minutes," reflected head coach Meghan Gillis.
Christina Cleroux made a total of 14 saves, while Jessica Thulin made 33.
The Ephs face off against Sacred Heart at 7pm on Tuesday night.
