WILLIAMSPORT, PA—A stellar performance by the Ephs today in the Budd Whitehill National Duals places them in the championship bracket for tomorrow's matches. The Ephs started off the day by defeating Ohio Northern 24-18. They upset York College by a score of 21-17 in the second round, which was ranked thirteenth in the nation and was the number one seed for the division. The Ephs finished off the day with another win against Rochester Institute of Technology, 31-15.
Two of the Eph freshman showed an impressive start to the day with Matt Morris downing Brat Taton 7-1, and Jake Savoca defeating his opponent 11-4. Sophomore Chris Chorzepa, and juniors Anthony Brooks and Jorge Lopez also added to the Ephs' win column.
Coach Honecker noted, "we were the 3 seed in our pool and had to upset Ohio Northern and York to get to this spot. I don't think we wrestled especially, well," he continued, " this is just where we belong. Hopefully we can turn up the heat tomorrow in the semifinals against Lycoming. They are in their home gym, so we are going to need some early wins to neutralize any advantage that could give them. It's good to have some of the guys who have been out of the lineup back, but our conditioning leaves a bit to be desired. We will get there, and there's no better way to do that than grind out these tough matches against great competition. The best part so far this weekend has been the team effort. It has been awesome to watch these guys support one another and step it up for one another."
