Box Score NEW LONDON, CT - The Williams College women's hockey (8-12-3) team lost to NESCAC opponent Connecticut College tonight (12-8-3), 4-2. Sophomore Ashley Anctil (Manchester, NH) scored two power play goals to tie the game at 2-2 in the third period, then senior Justina Germano (Westwood, MA) scored the game winning goal at 15:32.
Williams started off the first period with a penalty kill, gaining momentum to take the lead 1-0 at 6:15 with a goal by sophomore Sara Lehman (Lexington, MA).
Senior Caitlin Conlon (Sudbury, MA) passed it to sophomore Hanna Beattie (Whitehouse Station, NJ) who took a shot from the point. Lehman tipped in the puck off the rebound.
The Ephs earned another penalty kill at 6:57, coming right after the goal.
Two minutes later, the Camels received a penalty. The Ephs put pressure on Camel goalie Kelsie Fralick (West Chester, PA), taking several shots, but Fralick stayed big in net to keep it a one goal game.
Williams had another power play at 17:33, but once again the Camels earned the penalty kill.
The Ephs played a great second period, increasing their lead to 2-0 with Lehman notching her second goal of the night. The sophomore from Lexington, MA scored right after the completion of a Camel penalty. The freshmen Kearan Burke (Shrewsbury, MA) and Candace Lu (Studio City, CA) earned assists on the goal.
Lehman now leads the Ephs with seven goals this season.
When Williams received a 5 minute penalty at 3:31 minutes into the final period, the Camels came out firing. Anctil scored a power play goal at 5:16 to make it a one goal game. Then, on another Connecticut College power play, Anctil scored again at 10:37 to tie the game at 2-2.
Germano then took the lead 5 minutes later with a shot from the mid-slot.
Williams pulled their goalie with just over a minute of play left in the third, and the Camels scored an empty net goal at 19:12 to secure the win 4-2 over the Ephs.
"We played a really strong second period, but special teams had a big impact tonight. Connecticut College did a good job capitalizing off the 5 minute major in the final period," reflected head coach Meghan Gillis.
Williams goalie Christina Cleroux (New Glascow, NS) made a total of 32 saves, while Connecticut College goalie Kelsie Fralick made a total of 24 bids.
The Ephs will face off against Connecticut College at 3pm tomorrow in their last regular season game.
