Ephs Add 3 Wins to Record Today

MIDDLETOWN, CT—The Williams College Ephs went 3-0 today against Wesleyan University, SUNY Oneonta, and University of Southern Maine and upped their season record to 16-2.

The Ephs defeated Wesleyan 22-20, SUNY Oneonta 38-12, and Southern Maine 43-4.

Head coach Scott Honecker commended the strong sense of team his wrestlers put out today. "Today was a great team effort up and down the lineup," he said.

It was not all smooth-sailing for the Ephs, though. "We started off slow with the narrow win against Wesleayan," said Honecker. "We got better all day long. The guys left no questions by the time we got to Southern Maine."

First year Jake Savoca performed well for Williams today, competing for the first time in the 141 weight-class. He went 3-0 on the day with a major, a technical, and a pin. Of Savoca Honecker said, "his weight is under control and he needs to keep his winning attitude rolling. If he can do that, he will be a real handful at regionals."

Honecker also commented on junior Tim Garripoli, as he will be down to the 149 weight-class next week. Today he weighed in at 150 and moved to the 165 weight-class and pulled out a huge win against Wesleyan to propel the Ephs to victory.

First year Matt Morris and junior Jorge Lopez also were 3-0 in today's matches. Honecker was impressed at their ability to continually improve each match. Sophomore Christopher Chorzepa also had a major day posting three wins and beating the number two ranked New England wrestler.

Overall, Williams performed as they needed to in each big matchup today.

The Ephs look to continue their success on February 14th against Springfield and WPI.
