Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Powered by Nancy Palmer's 4 goals, No. 20 Williams (4-2, 2-2 NESCAC) defeated Union College (2-2, 0-0 LIBERTY) 17-11 Tuesday afternoon at Catholic University's Cardinal Stadium. Palmer's tally with 32 seconds remaining in the first half clinched the team's third straight victory.

Natalie Gill ('16) opened the game's scoring just 22 seconds into the first frame on a Hillary Cook assist. The Dutchwomen quickly answered on an unassisted tally by Jackie Hagopian at 28:29. The Ephs responded to Hagopian's mark with force, recording four straight goals by Palmer ('15), Becca Bell ('15), and Gill. Following the Ephs' offensive flurry, Dutchwomen head coach Abigail Jackson called a timeout with 21:14 remaining in the half.

Union emerged from their timeout with vigor and quickly established possession via Hailey Gould's draw control. Though the Dutchwomen fired several dangerous shots, the Ephs defense and goaltender, Margaret Draper ('17), held tall and did not surrender a goal. The game's next goal was tallied by Union at 16:47 by Maggie Comiskey. The Ephs and Dutchwomen exchanged goals for the remainder of the half, ending the frame 12-8 in favor of Williams.

Fans got their fair share of offensive production in the first half; Union edged Williams in shots 17-16. Draper bested Union netminder, Kim Grinhaus, 3-2 in saves. Of their 8 goals, the Dutchwomen capitalized three on free-position chances.

The second half was much calmer, witnessing only 8 goals in total. Hillary Cook opened the second half scoring at 27:29 on an Anne Rehfuss feed. The Dutchwomen swiftly answered with a goal of their own at 26:22 on an Emily McGrail free-position shot. The Ephs countered with their second 4-goal streak of the game with goals by Bridget Malicki ('15), Maeve Mulholland ('15), and Alyssa Maddalone ('16). Maddalone, a Choate Rosemary Hall product, registered her first goal of the season. Union added 2 goals with under five minutes to play to bring the final score to 17-11.

Palmer (4) and Mulholland (2,2) led the Ephs in scoring. The Dutchwomen were driven by Emily McGrail's 5 goals. On defense, Molly Belk registered a game-high 6 ground balls. In goal, Draper managed 7 saves on 18 shots, and Grinhaus fashioned 7 saves on 24 Eph chances.

Union opens Liberty League play this weekend with games against Vassar College and Bard College. The Ephs continue their non-conference play against Catholic University on Thursday at 4:30PM.
