Williams Remains Unbeaten in Sunday Doubleheader

Williamstown, Ma - It was a sunny day in the Berkshires as the Ephs were set to take on conference opponent Tufts University (8-7) in addition to the Beavers of Babson College (15-7). Williams has been flawless this season (15-0) and looked to maintain their rank as the nation's top Division 3 team in the Sunday doubleheader.

The Ephs openend with the Jumbos of Tufts University at 11a.m. It was a strong day for Williams in doubles play, as senior Maria Pylypiv (W) and freshman Julia Cancio (W) led off with a decisive 8-1 victory over the sophomore pairing of Conner Colabro (T) and Alexa Meltzer (T) from Tufts. T

he Ephs' tandem of Linda Shin '17 and Juli Raventos '18 followed with another win at 8-1, lifting the score to 2-0. Maya Hart '16 (W) and Rebecca Curran '15 (W) were effective in the final doubles match, sweeping their Tufts opponent 8-0 and giving the Ephs momentum heading into singles.

Success followed for Williams in singles play. Hannah Atkinson '17 (W), Julia Cancio and Monica Pastor '15 each defeated their opponent in two sets - giving the their team a 6-0 lead. Linda Shin (W) was focused as she faced Tufts' Conner Colabro, coming out on top 6-0, 6-1. Mia Gancayco '18 (W) and Rebecca Curran (W) finished with strong matches for Williams, topping their opponents in two sets and solidifying a 9-0 victory for the Ephs.

In the second match of the day, Williams was effective yet again. Linda Shin (W) and Julia Raventos (W) executed well in doubles, topping Babson's Alex Freeman '15 and Alexis Ferraro '15, 8-2. Maya Hart and Rebecca Curran followed suit with an 8-1 victory, while the Ephs' pairing of Gancayco/Atkinson remained successful at an 8-1 margin. With the productive play in doubles Williams headed into singles play up 3-0.

in singles, the Ephs were equally productive. Hannah Atkinson (W), Maria Pylypiv (W) and Juli Raventos (W) each swept their opponents, while Monica Pastor (W) was able to battle Babson's Claire Foster for a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Mia Gancayco (W) and Alex Stone '16 (W) finished for the Ephs maintaining the success of the day with 6-2, 6-1 and 6-4, 6-2 victories - sealing a 9-0 win for Williams over Babson.

Senior captain Rebecca Curran commented on the day, noting - "Coming off this weekend we all feel that we have a lot to celebrate. We have improved since spring break and we hope to keep our intensity and focus up in the upcoming weeks so we can continue to improve. The constant drive to improve is the most integral piece to our success thus far."

With the pair of wins, the Ephs move to 15-0 on the year and look to maintain their success as they head into the final weekend of conference play. Williams will face Bowdoin College next Saturday (4/25) at home. The match is set for 10am EDT.
