Williamstown, Mass. - - With today's win over the Bobcats of Bates, the Ephs move to 18-0 and notch a perfect regular season. This is head coach Alison Swain's first perfect regular season with Williams as her squad remains poised for postseason play.
Coach Swain commented on the achievment, "Finishing the regular season undefeated and undefeated in the regular conference is a huge accomplishment. I'm really proud of these girls, but we will now turn our focus towards postseason play and competing at our best going forward."
In doubles, Juli Raventos (W) '18 and Linda Shin (W) '17 topped Bates' Elizabeth Erbifina '17 and Elena Mandzhukova '15, 8-4. The Ephs' pairing of Maya Hart '16/Rebecca Curran '15 followed with an 8-1 victory over the Bobcats' Silverman/Pearson. Mia Goncayco (W) '18 and Hannah Atkinson (W) '17 concluded doubles playing, maintaing success with an 8-1 win and taking Williams into singles up 3-0.
Maria Pylypiv '15 led for Williams in singles, taking her Bates opponent in two sets at 6-1, 6-0. Raventos (W) followed, facing Elizabeth Erbafina (B) and coming out on top 6-1, 6-1. Gancayco (W), Cancio (W) and Atkinson (W) each earned victories as well. Senior Monica Pastor (W) finished the day for the Ephs, topping the Bobcats' Emma Blakely '16 - 6-0, 6-0, maintaining pefection for Williams on the day.
With their 18th win of the season, Williams looks towards the NESCAC championships on friday. The victory today puts coach Swain's career record at 175-20 (.897).
