Williamstown, Ma - In the round of 16, the Williams College Ephs (22-0) defeated the Thoroughbreds of Skidmore College (14-9) 5-0. With the win today, the Ephs set their sights on the NCAA Quarterfinals on May 18th.
It was Williams who started out strong in doubles play on Sunday, taking all three of the matches. Maria Pylypiv (W) and Julia Cancio (W) finished first on court one, taking Skidmore's tandom of Zoe Valella and Yumi Karlshoej by the score of 8-1. Linda Shin (W) and Juli Raventos (W) followed, topping Skidmore's Brianna Greene and Caroline Finnegan 8-1 as well. Michelle Fuca (S) and Erica Meno (S) battled on court three, but were eventually topped by Williams' Rebecca Curran and Maya Hart at 8-5.
The Ephs continued their efficiency in singles. Maria Pylypiv (W) took the Thoroughbreds' Zoe Valella in two sets, 6-1, 6-1. On court three, Linda Shin (W) faced Brianna Greene of Skidmore - ultimately, continuing the Ephs' success with a win at 6-2, 6-0, giving Williams the match win at 5-0.
Skidmore finishes the season at 14-9 and they have made 18 straight appearances in NCAA play sport an all-time record of 16-18.
With the win today, the Ephs improve to 22-0 on the year, extending their overall win streak to 23, and claim their third win over Skidmore in NCAA tourney play.
This will be the eighth consecutive NCAA Quarterfinal apperance for Williams under eight-year head coach Alison Swain.
The 2015 NCAA Championships will be help on May 18-20th at Linder Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio. The Ephs will face DePauw University in the Quarterfinal Round on May 18th.
