Women's Squash Upsets George Washington in Historic Win

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – The Ephs pulled off a incredible 7-2 win today against George Washington. The Colonials are currently ranked 10th in the country and Williams at #13, yet the Ephs knew that an upset was certainly possible if they played well. They did just that, finishing the match with a 7-2 win that marks a historic upset in women's college squash.

The match followed the three-court system, with co-captain Nicole Feshbach (#3), co-captain Lily Grant (#6), and Caroline Hogan (#9) up first. Hogan was first to finish her match, dominating her opponent in three games. Grant followed in a similar fashion, also winning her match 3-0, resulting in a 2-0 lead for the Ephs. Feshbach began her match with a 2-0 deficit, yet the Eph's co-captain refused to go down without a fight and evened out the score to 2-2. She then dominated her opponent in the fifth game, earning another vital point for the Ephs and making the overall match score 3-0.

Next on court were Hayley Parsons (#2), Esther Baek (#5), and Charlotte Walsh (#8). After the first game, all three players were down 1-0. Walsh was the first to turn around her match, winning the next three games and putting the match at 4-0 to the Ephs. In another thrilling match, Baek came back from a 2-1 deficit to get the crucial winning point for the Ephs. Parsons fell to her opponent in a hard-fought four game match, putting the match score at 5-1 to the Ephs.

Last on court were Nicole Friedman (#1), Ananya Mahalingam-Dhingra (#4), and Ellen Coombe (#7). Coombe and Mahalingam-Dhingra continued the positive momentum of their teammates, both winning in four games. In the exhibition match also taking place at this time, Alyssa Ritchie (#10), downed her opponent in three quick games. Friedman faced a very difficult opponent, and although she fought hard, she fell in three games, making the final match score 7-2 to the Ephs.

Head coach Zafi Levy was extremely happy with the win, commenting "really impressive win today for the women's team. We are really excited by the team's performance, led by both captains Nicole Feshbach and Lily Grant. We have another hard match tomorrow against Franklin and Marshall and we are focused on winning this match to improve our national ranking."

Co-captain Lily Grant echoed Levy's positive sentiments, stating "We are ecstatic about the performances from all our players today, especially the incredible five-game wins from behind from Nicole Feshbach and Esther Baek. We are looking forward to keeping the momentum going against Franklin and Marshall tomorrow."

The Ephs will face another tough opponent in Franklin and Marshall home tomorrow at 2pm.
