Ephs go 2-1 at METRO/NEWA Duals

BRISTOL, R.I. -- Williams College finished 2-1 today at the METRO/NEWA Dusls hosted by Roger Williams University, with impressive wins over both Hunter and Centenary, and a tough loss to TCNJ, which is currently ranked 10th in the nation.

Wiliams downed Hunter College 45-9,defeated Centenary college 37-6, and was defeated by TCNJ 22-13.

When asked to comment Eph head coach Scott Honnecker was focused on the remainder of the season stating, "I would have preferred to go 3-0 today, but we have to keep our focus on the process." The Williams wrestlers saw some great competition. Ultimately, "It was an amazing duals for our guys, their guys and anybody who is a fan of the sport of wrestling."

Against Hunter and Centenary, Williams "took care of business." At 197 senior Anthony Brooks scored a big win over his opponent from Hunter picking up a fall in the first period, hitting a throw off his opponent's shot.

At 184 junior Chris Chorzepa put up three dominant performances, while senior Captain Jorge Lopez went 2-0 controlling the match against two strong opponents. "Jorge is wrestling his way into peak condition after seeing limited action in December and January," Honnecker noted.

Senior captain Tim Garripoli looked strong putting up two wins for Williams today, as did sophomores Jake Savoca (149) and Matt Morris (125) who went 3-0. "Savoca has so much intensity, if we can get his emotions all pushing in the same direction he will be downright impressive, and Matt Morris set the pace all day," stated Honecker. "He's getting better and better and his mindset is on point."

Ultimately the loss to TCNJ was a definite rough patch the Williams wrestlers, but the team as a whole is holding their heads high. "As long as they use this loss as a developmental experience and identify what they are doing well, I believe the will be in an excellent place going into the last 4-6 weeks of the season,"  commented Honecker. With two wins to show for their efforts the team, "will look back at the results as an evaluative measure," said Honecker. "For now process wins over and they are on the right track."
