Women's Squash Downs Hamilton 9-0

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – In the first match of 2016, the Ephs downed fellow NESCAC team Hamilton 9-0. In route to their victory, not a single member of the team dropped a game, resulting in a 3-0 sweep across all matches.

Playing the three courts system on their home courts, first up were Ephs co-captain Nicole Feshbach (#3), co-captain Lily Grant (#6), and Caroline Hogan (#9). First off the court was Hogan, who downed her opponent in three quick games. Both captains were next off court, again pulling off two quick wins, making the match score 3-0 to the Ephs.

The second round of matches consisted of Hayley Parsons (#2), Ananya Mahalingam-Dhingra (#5), and Charlotte Walsh (#8). Following the example of their fellow teammates, the players finished their matches in three games, ensuring a match win for the Ephs.

Last on court came Nicole Friedman (#1), Esther Baek (#4), and Ellen Coombe (#7). Coombe was returning to the courts after a semester abroad, and made her entrance back into the top nine with a three game victory. Friedman and Baek also had dominant matches, making the end result a solid 9-0 win for the Ephs.

"Really nice work by the ladies tonight," commented head coach Zafi Levy. "I thought all the players were very focused to get a good result tonight. I was pleased with the level on all courts and I believe this was a strong showing for first match after the break."

Women's squash will face one of their toughest opponents on Saturday when they travel to Maine to take on Bates. Historically, Williams has had extremely close matches with the Bobcats, with last year's face-off ending in a narrow 5-4 victory for the Ephs.

"I'm really happy with how the team performed today," stated co-captain Feshbach. "It was great to have our full ladder back with two juniors returning from abroad (Ellen Coombe and Alyssa Ritchie). We hope this match will serve as positive momentum when we play Bates this weekend, who always prove to be a challenge for us."

The women will be on the road to Maine tomorrow, facing their NESCAC rival Bates at 12pm on Saturday. They will then finish the weekend with matches against Bowdoin and Colby on Sunday at 10am and 3pm, respectively.
