Ephs Go Undefeated During Day 1 of Lycoming's Budd Whitehill Duals

WILLIAMSPORT, PA -- Williams College (4-0) wrestling pulled off three straight wins today, defeating Millikin University, Trine University, and host Lycoming College.

When asked to comment on the performance of his team, Eph head coach Scott Honecker had the following to say: "We knew today would be a challenging day, but our guys really rose to the occasion. We're managing some bumps and bruises as well as a nasty case of the flu, but we got some great performances that gave us the flexibility to do what we need to do and advance to the gold medal bracket on Day 2."

"Like I said in the pre-meet story I knew we would need some unusual suspects come out on top for us. Carl Sangree really did yeoman's work holding down the 174 lb weight class. He fended off bonus points in the pool championship duel, which took the victory out of Lycoming's reach. We saw great performances out of freshmen at 133 [Ben Morton] and 141 [Brendon Seyfried] as well, and we're learning we can really count on those guys. It goes without saying that our more experienced guys led the way, it wasn't about their words though it was their actions in the match that shone through."

Williams will go on to wrestle for the tournament championship on Day 2 after winning their pool, facing, TCNJ in the semi-final bout.  TCNJ is ranked 14th nationally, while the Ephs are ranked 18th.

On the other side of the semi-final round Messiah, the pre-tournament favorite and currently ranked 6th nationally will face off against No. 22 York College (PA), both looking to make it to the final round.

The Ephs wil face TCNJ at 10:30 AM with the third place match and the championship match both scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m.

Last year Messiah beat Wiliams 34-6 to in the championship match capture the Budd Whitehills title.
