CLINTON, NY – The Ephs defeated fellow NESCAC member Hamilton today, to finish off their opening weekend with a final score of three wins and one loss and extending thier win streak to three.
After facing Cornell on Friday and William Smith and Dickinson on Saturday, the Ephs were determined to dominate their final match and round off the weekend on a high note.
Playing the three-court system, Caroline Hogan (#9), Anna Nicholson (#6), and Melissa Swann (#3) were first on court. Hogan was first off the court, Nicholson and Swann close behind her, with none of the three players dropping a single game against their opponents.
Charlotte Walsh (#8), Alyssa Ritchie (#5), and Esther Baek (#2) were up next. Despite their fatigue from the long weekend, the Ephs stepped up their game and each collected 3-0 wins.
Last on court were Ellen Coombe (#7), Ananya Mahalingam-Dhingra (#4), and Nicole Friedman (#1), all of whom followed the example of their teammates and finished off the match with a final score of 9-0. Eliza Bower (#10) also defeated her opponent soundly in three games in an exhibition match.
Assistant coach Blair Dils praised the women team on their ability to dominate after a long weekend of matches. He stated, "It was a great end to a long weekend with a convincing win over a NESCAC opponent. The first years played well today and are already making a name for themselves on the team. We're looking forward to the break and then a good week of training in advance of our big match with Drexel at home on December 3.
Captain Alyssa Ritchie agreed with Dils' sentiment, stating, "We closed out a long weekend with an overwhelmingly positive showing at Hamilton. Every player focused and performed well to win their match 3-0 and we're looking forward to seeing Hamilton again at NESCACS."
The Ephs will next face Princeton, Wellesley, and Drexel in their home opener weekend on December 3 and 4.
