Williams Falls to Princeton and Defeats Wellesley

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – The Ephs fell to Princeton and beat Wellesley in the second day of their home opener weekend. The team lost to Princeton 8-1 and defeated Wellesley 9-0.

The team first played Princeton at 11am, playing a five-court system with Eliza Bower (#10), Caroline Hogan (#8), Charlotte Walsh (#6), Ananya Mahalingam-Dhingra (#4), and Esther Baek (#2) on court first. Bower played an excellent game of squash, defeating her opponent in four well-fought games, and her teammates, while not managing to get any games, fought hard against extremely skilled opponents. Next on court were Ellen Coombe (#9), captain Alyssa Ritchie (#7), Anna Nicholson (#5), Melissa Swann (#3), and Nicole Friedman (#1). Nicholson played well, managing to get a game off her opponent. Friedman had easily the most memorable match of the day, going head to head against an extremely strong opponent and winning 18-16 in a nail-biting fifth game.

The Ephs next faced Wellesley at 2pm, a team that is new but growing stronger every year. Despite their fatigue, the Ephs maintained their dominance and won all their matches 3-0 to round of the weekend with two wins and one loss.

Assistant coach Blair Dils had this to say about the match, "I was worried about a letdown today after the big win yesterday, but the intensity and concentration during both matches was terrific. Nicole's win against Princeton was incredibly gutsy and one we'll remember for a long time."

Captain Alyssa Ritchie had similar thoughts: "The women's team had a tough morning against Princeton, a great team. Nicole's win was an exciting upset and even though we lost 8-1, I am proud that each player fought hard. This afternoon's match was a solid win against Wellesley, a team we always enjoy seeing and playing. We wish both teams the best of luck in their respective seasons."

The women's team has a break before their next round of matches that will take place at Williams during the first weekend in January. They will next travel to California during winter break to train and prepare for the bulk of their season in January.
