Ephs Blank DePauw 9-0 in Fab Five Tournament

ATLANTA, GA -- Less than 12 hours after their second match of the day on Saturday the Williams women's tennis team was back in action on Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. to play DePauw in the Fab Five Tournament at Emory University.

The DePauw Tigers entered of of two straight losses and sporting a record of 6-6, while Williams entered off a win over Trinty (TX) and sporting a record of 7-1.

Tired though they may have been from yesterday's two matches that lasted into the night the Ephs got down to business and swept the doubles to go up 3-0 and then won all six singles in straight sets to post the 9-0 win.

With the win the Ephs improved to 8-1 and DePauw falls to 6-7.

The three doubles team came off the court first with an 8-5 win as Alex Stone and Carmen Saab expanded a 4-3 lead into a 6-3 lead before ending the match at 8-5.

At #1 doubles Julia Cancio and Hannah Atkinson opened up with a 3-0 lead that went to 4-1 and then 6-3, before they posted an 8-4 win.

The third doubles point came from the #2 pairing of Maya Hart and Mia Gancayco who at one point trailed 4-3, but rallied to win 9-7.

In sinlges play all six wins resgistered by the Ephs came in straight sets. Giulia McDonnell's 6-0, 6-0 win over Colleen Morris gave the Ephs their fourth team point. Cementing the win was Leah Bush at #3 singles who also posted a 6-0, 6-0 win to give the Ephs their eighth win of the year.

"After a long weekend of some great tennis, I thought our singles wrapped up our last match well," said Eph head coach Alison Swain. "They played with a lot of confidence and focus from start to finish."

Next up for the Ephs is a Wednesday afternoon encounter at 3:00 p.m. versus #4 ranked Emory University, the team the Ephs edged 5-4 in last year's NCAA championship match.
