WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – The Ephs defeated NESCAC rival Bates today in a victory that represents one of the biggest wins of their season. The team defeated the Bobcats in 7-2 to round off their weekend undefeated.
Playing the three-court system, Ephs Charlotte Walsh (#9), Melissa Swann (#6), and Esther Baek (#3) were first on court. Walsh started off strong and dominated her opponent to handily win the match in three short games, coming back in the last one from a 9-4 deficit to win 11-9. Swann and Baek both won in four games, with Baek coming back from a 1-0 deficit and Swann from a 1-1 tie to win 3-1.
Next up were Ellen Coombe (#8), captain Alyssa Ritchie (#5), and Hayley Parsons (#2). Coombe was first off court, defeating her opponent in three quick and dominant games. Ritchie and Parsons faced extremely tough opponents and fell in two hard fought battles, Ritchie losing in three tight games and Parsons in four.
Last on court were Anna Nicholson (#7), Ananya Mahalingam-Dhingra (#4), and Nicole Friedman (#1). Nicholson dominated her opponent from start to finish, winning in three decisive games and getting Williams the fifth point that they needed to win the match.
