Women's Squash Defeats Bates 5-4

PRINCETON, NJ – The Ephs defeated Bates today in another tight 5-4 win that advances them to the consolation finals of the Kurtz cup. 

Playing the three-court system, Charlotte Walsh (#9), Melissa Swann (#6), and Hayley Parsons (#3). Walsh continued her pattern for the weekend, dominating her opponent in three quick games. Swann, despite dropping the second game, came back and won in four. Parsons also dominated, winning in three tight games and gaining a third point for the Ephs.

Next on court were Ellen Coombe (#8), captain Alyssa Ritchie (#5), and Esther Baek (#2). Coombe won in three games, getting the Ephs their fourth point. Ritchie fought hard against a difficult opponent and managed to get a game but eventually fell in four. Baek also fell in four tight games, but played excellent squash against a tough opponent.

Last on court were Anna Nicholson (#7), Ananya Mahalingam-Dhingra (#4), Nicole Friedman (#1). Nicholson won in three decisive games, gaining the fifth and winning point for the Ephs. Mahalingam-Dhingra had to default her match due to illness, and Friedman fell in four close games to a skilled opponent, making the overall match score 5-4 to Bates.

The Ephs next face University of Virginia tomorrow at Lawrenceville at 12:30pm in the consolation finals.
