Box Score

HARTFORD, CT — The Williams College women's hockey team (10-8-2) defeated NESCAC opponent Trinity College (5-11-2) 1-0 tonight. Senior Chelsey Stevenson (Tilbury, ONT) scored the game-winning goal at 2:40 in the first period. The Ephs are now 7-4-2 in the NESCAC, while the Bantams are 4-6-1.

Williams took the lead early on in the first period. The Ephs capitalized on a 5 on 3 power play, with a goal by Stevenson at 2:40. Sophomore Abby Brustad (Mound, MN) sent a pass from below the hashmarks over to Stevenson, who was sitting on junior Sydney Belinskas' (Port Orange, FL) doorstep to one-time the puck into the net.

At 5:08 both teams received penalties, opening up the ice for 4 on 4 hockey.

At 12:46 Trinity went on the power play, but couldn't get the puck past freshman goalie Marissa Anderson (East Falmouth, MA). She made three key saves on the penalty kill, falling on the puck twice for the whistle.

Then with 24 seconds left in the first period, Anderson made an impressive butterfly save off a shot from the short side, maintaining her team's one goal lead going into the second period.

Williams received three penalties in the second period, giving the Bantams scoring opportunities. However Anderson stayed big in net during the Trinity power plays to keep it 1-0 Williams.

At 14:23 in the second, Anderson made back-to-back saves. First, she deflected a wrist shot from the point, and then kicking out her right leg to do the splits and stop a shot with her pads.

Trinity continued to apply offensive pressure during the third period, outshooting the Ephs 9 to 7. However Anderson continued to stay tough between the pipes, earning a shut-out and leading her team towards a victory against the Bantams.

"Marissa Anderson was amazing in her shutout performance," reflected Williams head coach Meghan Gillis, "Trinity had a lot of quality chances and she made some clutch saves."

The Ephs will play the Bantams again tomorrow at 4pm.
