Box Score HARTFORD, CT — The Williams College women's hockey team (10-9-2, NESCAC 7-5-2) lost to the Trinity College Bantams (6-11-2, NESCAC 5-6-1) 2-1 tonight. Senior Jessica Stowell (Hadley, MA) scored the game-winning goal at 19:12 in the third period. With a win against the Bantams last night and the loss this afternoon, this Ephs will leave Hartford tying Trinity in this NESCAC series.
The Ephs took the lead in the first period with an unassisted goal by senior Sara Lehman (Lexington, MA) at 9:36. Scoring her 12th goal tonight, Lehman is the top goal-scorer for Williams.
The Ephs continued to control play for the rest of the first frame, outshooting the Bantams 9 to 1.
However, the Bantams responded in the second period. Coming out fired up, they pressure Williams goalie Marissa Anderson'20 (East Falmouth, MA), laying 15 shots on goal to Williams' 9.
The Ephs racked up two consecutive penalties at the end of the second period that transferred over to the final frame.
The Bantams began the third with a two man advantage over Williams. However, the Ephs played great defense. They managed to clear the puck several times, maintaining their 1-0 lead over Trinity.
At 5:46, freshman Alex Sinson (Elm Grove, WI) scored her first collegiate goal to tie the game up 1-1. Sinson was assisted by junior Hannah Oganeku (Castle Pines, CO).
Trinity continued to pressure Williams after tying up the game. With just 48 seconds left in the game, senior Jessica Stowell (Hadley, MA) scored to make it 2-1 for the Bantams.
The Ephs pulled Anderson to gain a one-man advantage after the Trinity goal, but were unable to tie up the score.
"Over the next week we will be focusing on puck support in all three zones and building offensive chances," commented Williams head coach Meghan Gillis, "Saint Anselm is a very talented team so we are looking forward to that challenge."
The Ephs will face off against out-of-conference opponent Saint Anselm this coming Friday at Lansing Chapman Rink. The puck drops at 4:30pm.
