AMHERST, MA – The Ephs fell to top ranked team Trinity today in the finals of the NESCAC championship. After defeating Bowdoin and Middlebury yesterday, the team fell to the Bantams 9-0 to place second in the tournament.
Memorable matches of the afternoon included Melissa Swann (#6), who managed to have a tight three games against a tough opponent. Caroline Hogan (#9) also had the most impressive match of the afternoon, taking her opponent to tie-breaking five games and being the only player on the starting lineup to get games off of her opponent. Eliza Bower (#10) also played extremely well, defeating her opponent in three dominant games and winning a point for Williams.
Assistant coach Blair Dils had this to say about the weekend: "We played very well today despite the lopsided score. Hopefully we can use the challenge of today's match to play great against Dartmouth on Wednesday."
Captain Alyssa Ritchie agreed with this, stating, "I'm really proud of the women's team for earning second place at NESCACS this weekend. Each player played up to their potential in our semifinal match against Middlebury, enabling us to come away with a stronger, more dominant result to move us into the finals. Playing Trinity is always a challenge for us, and today was no exception, but it was a fun way to cap off an exciting weekend."v
The Ephs will next face Dartmouth on Wednesday.
